Scholarships

Each year, the Grogan's Mill Village Association, serving on behalf of the residents of the community, raises funds for and awards several scholarships to outstanding local students pursuing higher education. This scholarship is intended to recognize and encourage a spirit of community involvement and good citizenship among students residing in the village.

QUALIFYING CRITERIA:

The general qualifying criteria for scholarship awards are as follows:

  • Applicants must be graduating high school students, or currently attending college or vocational school,

  • Applicants must have a home address in the Village of Grogan’s Mill at the time of application,

  • Applicants must be in good standing at their school or college at the time of application, and

  • Applicants must be applying for, or currently attending, an accredited higher education 2- or 4-year college, licensed vocational/trade school, or applying for graduate studies at university.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Awards will be based on full completion of the scholarship application, with emphasis on the following criteria:

  • Demonstration of financial need,

  • A strong sense of community involvement and good citizenship,

  • Outstanding academic achievements and grades,

  • Documentation of extracurricular activities and accomplishments, and

  • Counselor, teacher, employer, or academic administration recommendations.

Applications will be reviewed by the GMVA Board’s Scholarship Committee, which will consist of at least three (3) GMVA members. A personal interview of the applicants may also be requested. ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.  

The GMVA Scholarship Committee will invite the scholarship awardees to the GMVA Board meeting held on May 20, 2024 to be recognized for their success.

Completed applications must be scanned and emailed to scholarships@gmva.org (original does NOT need to be mailed) or mailed (PLEASE, email is preferred) and post-marked NO LATER THAN March 28, 2024 to:

Final decisions will be made no later than April 13, 2024. All scholarship applicants and high school counselors will be notified of the results following the GMVA Board meeting on April 15, 2024. Each successful applicant will be presented with a scholarship award certificate at the GMVA Board meeting on May 20, 2024. The actual award amount will be credited directly to the student’s account at the college, vocational school, or university once accepted and/or enrolled.

All application, reference, and interview information will be kept strictly confidential, except that the GMVA reserves the right to publish the names, high school, intended college & major, and a group photograph of the successful scholarship awardees at the discretion of the GMVA.
